a midsummer night’s dream

this picture was taken around 9pm here in norway. after the cold, dark winter, we love our long summer nights.

midsummer (also known as st. hansaften or jonsok – the nativity of john the baptist) is tonight which is a cause for celebration! it is tradition to light bonfires to keep away evil spirits, but we simply enjoyed going to the coast, grilling and watching the bonfires for the beauty of it. it is also tradition for young girls to jump seven fences and pick seven different types of flowers to be placed under their pillows at night. if they manage to do this, they supposedly dream about their future husbands.

pagan or christian, midsummer was a great time to celebrate life with friends.

sweet dreams.
