my roommate (not really, but it’s still nice to say it) ragnhild and i baked some yummy salted fudge brownies (recipe to follow) and are getting ready to pour ourselves a good cup of coffee and watch a french film (Jeux d’enfants) – it doesn’t get more festive than that.

happy valentine’s day!

i’m soaking up my time in norway (which is flying by way too quickly, i might add). life these days is spent going from one cup of coffee to another, conversation to conversation, home to home – and i’m loving every moment. i’m acutely aware how wonderful my friends are and even now, i’m seeing and experiencing that in a different and larger perspective. i am crazy blessed.

several friends have opened their homes to me on this trip and this past week, as my friend janne and her family were away at work and preschool, i found myself alone in the house for a few hours. i realized this was one of the first times in months that i had been truly alone. and for an introvert like myself, i soaked it up. so i bought a sweet pastry, made a cup of coffee and read several chapters in a new book. after those few hours alone, i was ready for for the world again. here’s to the little things in life that bring heaps of joy.

in the 6 years of living in norway, i’ve managed to somehow do most of my traveling outside of the country (20 new countries!). as my time here is nearing an end though, i’ve made it a priority to visit friends and travel in-country. my journey began at 4.38am last friday, as kristin and i stepped on the train in skien. 2 trains, 1 bus and  8 hours later, we arrived in ål to meet ragnhild and britt solveig. over the next few days we hiked up a mountain, visited the sites in town, ate incredible traditional norwegian food (småmat, lefsekling, rjomegraut, spekemat, lapper) and spent late nights around the fire at the cabin.

here are a few of the sites i saw:

ragnhild and i are now in bergen where the next leg of the journey begins.

uff, i love norway.

i am so happy last week is over. living overseas, i’ve definitely considered what i would do if family members or friends became sick or passed away, but never in the seven years of living in europe, have i ever considered what i would do in the case of a tornado at home. the dts (the last dts i’ll be involved with in skien) graduated on friday and my roommate bought an apartment and moved out over the weekend. on the basis of full disclosure, i couldn’t help but feel such a sense of loss last week. it was a lot to process at one time.

but this weekend i’m escaping to kristiansand in the south of norway. i am so ready to see the coast, sit in the sun, drink coffee, and be with friends.

this is what i have to look forward to:
